7 Types of Visual Content That Increase Your Traffic

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what’s the value of a video? Or an infographic? Or any other type of visual content? Marketing teams have long understood that readers prefer to get their information visually. This remains true despite the fact that most content is still written or spoken word. For example, did you know that articles with images get 94% more views than those without? These days, we all scan content to find information rather than read it.

We don’t just want words on the page; we want relevant images as well. The human mind remembers visuals better than text, and visual information can be processed faster. Visuals also lend themselves to storytelling and making your brand stand out from the crowd. So how do you take advantage of this preference for visuals in your digital marketing campaigns? The answer lies in adding visual content wherever you can!

Different Ways to Increase Traffic Using Visual Content

You’ve probably heard that visual content is more engaging than plain text. Good design can help you convey your message in a way that’s more memorable and persuasive, all while being more likely to be shared by your audience.

Here are six visual content type that have been proven to increase traffic:

  • Infographics
  • Slideshows
  • Videos (including animations, motion graphics and other animated GIFs)
  • Graphs/charts (including charts with data from surveys – see the examples below!)
  • Diagrams/maps/infographics showing relationships between things (see the example below!)
  • Photos of people doing things

Slideshows and presentations

If you’re looking to share your knowledge and expertise with others, consider creating a slideshow. Slideshows can be used in a variety of ways, but they generally involve adding images, videos and other information that is presented visually on the screen. You can use text and images on slides as well as animated graphics to add interest and help readers understand what’s being communicated.

You may find it helpful to use PowerPoint or Keynote if you’re more comfortable working with a desktop computer than mobile devices. If you have all of the necessary materials available already (photos, videos), then consider using a template instead of building one from scratch. There are plenty of templates available online that allow users to plug in their own content without needing extensive design skills or experience with software programs like Photoshop or Illustrator.

Once you’ve selected your layout options for each slide in your presentation—whether it’s text-based or image-based—it’s time for the fun part: creating an engaging presentation! If none of this sounds appealing but still want something visual for social media posts (such as Facebook) then consider using Canva or Animoto instead because these tools do not require any knowledge about how computers work at all!

Original graphics

Original graphics are a great way to share your message and get it noticed. While they might seem like they’re a lot of work, the truth is that original graphics have some major advantages over other types of content:

  • They’re more likely to be shared.
  • They’re more likely to be shared by more people (and with more followers).


Images are the most popular form of content on social media, and they’re also easier to digest than text. They also have a higher chance of being shared and clicked on.

When you’re creating images for your blog or website, make sure you use high-quality images that communicate one message clearly. For example, if you’re sharing an infographic on how your product will help someone lose weight, then show them exercising and looking happy in the image captioned with “This is how we can help you lose ten pounds!”


It’s a great way to explain complex processes, show how a product works and even showcase the functionality of your products in action.

For example, if you have a tool that helps people with their writing skills, you can use video to demonstrate how it works. This might include showing text being corrected or changing as you reword sentences in an article. You could also show how much time users save by using the app versus other methods of editing their work such as pen and paper or Microsoft Word.

Infographics for blogs or website content 

An infographic is a graphic that contains information (e.g., statistics, facts, or quotes) in a way that’s easy to quickly process. It’s also known as an information graphic. If you have the data to back it up, creating an infographic is one of the best ways to increase your traffic and make things interesting for your readers at the same time.

Infographics are especially useful for illustrating complex ideas or processes that can’t be explained easily in text alone; they’re also great for promoting your content by using social media sites like Pinterest and Facebook (which are full of visual content). Here are some tips on how to create effective infographics:

  • Create something new—infographics should add value above and beyond what others have already done with similar topics. If you choose one topic in particular and find several different ways of presenting that topic visually while still keeping it fresh, then chances are good people will want to share your infographic around town!


Screenshots are a great way to show off a user interface or process. You can use them in tutorials and how-to articles, reviews, case studies, or infographics.

There’s no limit to what you can do with screenshots as you can either take your own photos or use stock photos from sites like Unsplash.

Stories on Facebook 

Stories are short, sweet, and full of information. They’re an easy way to share useful content with your audience in a format that’s easy for them to digest.

Because of the size limitations on stories (which is only up to 10 seconds), you can share more than just text or links. You can include photos and videos, create polls, and engage with people directly by asking questions. For example, I often put my Instagram handle in the description box when I post a story on Facebook so that any followers who like or comment on my story will automatically be added as friends of mine on Instagram!

And because they disappear after 24 hours (unless you save it), there isn’t much pressure involved in putting one out there—no need to worry about making an epic masterpiece that’ll blow everyone’s minds away. You can take a quick pic with your phone or use stock images from sites like Unsplash and Pixabay; whatever works best for showcasing what you’re trying to show off at that moment in time will do just fine!
