Chris Watts’ lover, for whom he slaughtered his family, has gotten in touch with him again after changing her identity and missing for three years, the murderer claims from behind bars.
Who is Chris Watts?
Shan’ann frequently traveled for business on behalf of the nutritional supplement company Le-Vel, while Chris had previously worked as an operator at Anadarko Petroleum. Their lives were centered around their girls.
The Watts family should have enjoyed a great summer in 2018. Chris Watts, 33, and his wife Shan’ann, 34, had just learned that they were expecting a son to join their two other children, Celeste, 3, and Bella, 4, in their suburban Frederick, Colorado, home, which is located approximately 27 miles north of Denver.
They appeared to be a content suburban family from the outside, but Shan’ann’s acquaintances had just begun hearing rumors of problems in paradise. The chillingly savage murders that were about to put a stop to their happily ever after, however, were something no one could have ever foreseen.
Who is Chris Watt’s Girlfriend?
On his route to the refrigerator, Nichol Kessinger, who works in Anadarko Petroleum’s environmental division, would pass the operators, including Chris. One day Chris stopped by her office and started a conversation.
Later in the month, they had their first contact away from the office.
The Denver Post claims that Chris sees Kessinger four or five times weekly and starts getting intimate in early July. She can be confident that he is virtually divorced.
Later that month, he informs Kessinger that the divorce is official when Shan’ann and the girls are in North Carolina.
According to an insider, Kessinger visits Chris’ house for the first time on July 4, and their first recorded phone contact occurs on July 7.
While his family is away, they also go to the Shelby American Collection automotive museum on July 14 and spend the night at Great Sand Dunes National Park on July 28. He gives her a love note on July 30 before going on vacation with his family.
Even though it is a family holiday, texts Shan’ann forwarded to a friend indicate that the couple may have problems. Other messages indicate that she and Chris’ dad had a tense relationship.
Kessinger’s cell phone data reveals that she spent two hours looking at wedding clothes online just a few weeks after they first started conversing.
She texts a friend that she and Chris had their “best chat yet” before she left on her trip after opening up to friends about her issues with Chris. She even begins to write him a letter by hand.
Chris hires a babysitter for Shan’ann’s absence and claims to be attending a baseball game with coworkers, but he meets Kessinger at a pub. After returning from the business trip in the wee hours of the morning, at approximately two in the morning, buddy Nickole Atkinson drives Shan’ann to her residence on the 2800 block of Saratoga Trail.
How Did Chris Watts Kill His Family?
In a subsequent confession, Chris admitted that as he was getting ready for work, he woke Shan’ann up to discuss their marriage and future.
He tells Shan’ann about his relationship and that their marriage won’t last even though she is carrying their unborn boy, who they had already named Nico Lee.
Shan’ann replies, “Chris won’t see the kids again,” and he suffocates her to death. Chris wraps Shan’ann in a blanket and carries her to his truck while Bella, who is four years old, enters and inquires as to what is wrong with Mum.
He drives to his work location while placing the two children in the backseat. Next, he suffocates Bella in a different tank and suffocates Celeste in the backseat before putting both bodies in oil tanks. Chris Watt later admitted from prison that he buried his wife’s body nearby.
Chris subsequently admits to having an “intense talk” with Shan’ann, telling the Denver ABC affiliate, “I left for work early that morning, like 5:15 to 5:30.”
Atkinson became anxious on August 13 and phoned the police.
Atkinson worries later that day when she doesn’t hear from Shan’ann. She claims, “I called her and texted her multiple times.” “Since she’s pregnant, I knew she had a doctor’s visit that morning. When she didn’t show up, I became even more worried. At about 1:40 pm, Shan’ann is reported missing.
Atkinson calls the police, who check on their welfare. The house has Shan’ann’s phone, keys, and handbag. News outlets quote husband Chris as saying, “That was the last thing I heard; she said she was heading to a friend’s house with the kids. It was ambiguous.
On the neighborhood news, Chris begs for the return of his family.
Chris calls Denver’s ABC affiliate and begs for their safe return as the Colorado Bureau of Investigation issues an Endangered Missing Alert: “Shan’ann, Bella, Celeste, if you are out there, just come back. Like, if somebody has her, please bring her back. I need to see everybody. Again, this house is not complete without anybody here. Bring them back, please. The FBI joins the search for the mother and daughters who have vanished. Chris fails a polygraph test and admits to killing Shan’ann to his father, Ronnie, and then to authorities, although he falsely says that he did so because she had smothered their daughters.
August 16, 2018 The bodies of Shan’ann, Bella, and Celeste are discovered.
In Chris’ workplace, the three murdered victims’ bodies had been found. Chris shows up in Weld County court the same day for a hearing on his bond. He’s rejected.
Chris is accused of three counts of first-degree murder and two additional first-degree charges for victims who were 12 or younger, one week after he appealed for their safe return.
He also faces three counts of interfering with a body and one more case of illegally terminating a pregnancy for nine accusations.
Chris appears in court and pleads guilty to each of the nine charges. The family of Shan’ann asks that the death penalty not be sought.
In announcing five life sentences without the possibility of parole, Judge Marcelo Kopcow calls the killing spree “possibly the most inhumane and vicious crime I have handled out of the thousands of cases that I have seen.” This includes 48 years for the illegal termination of Shan’ann’s pregnancy and 36 years for disposing of his family members’ bodies.
Moreover, Shan’ann’s parents file a wrongful death claim against Chris on the same day.
Due to safety concerns, Chris is transferred from Colorado to the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin. He has been confined with another child killer, Marcus “MJ” Johnson, who received a 40-year term for reckless homicide in 2015, since October. He drowned his girlfriend’s three-year-old son by submerging him in boiling hot water because he had soiled his trousers.
Why Did Chris Watts Kill His Family?
Chris Watts asserts that he wouldn’t have killed his wife Shanann and their two young daughters without encountering his mistress Nichol Kessinger. There was never any question that Kessinger was aware of his plans to kill his family, but even though she thought their relationship was just a harmless fling, she received a tonne of hate mail. After the murders over 2.5 years ago, she still lives in hiding.
Carter, 34, claimed Watts admitted to killing Shanann because he didn’t want to pay child support, didn’t want the son she was carrying, and was afraid his wife would get their Frederick, Colorado, home in the event of a divorce.
Carter, imprisoned for possessing drugs and stealing money from his employers, the restaurant company Arby’s, stated, “I don’t buy any of that, though.”
I COULD NEVER DESTROY MY ENTIRE FAMILY because I didn’t want a child or didn’t want to pay child support. Although I have a lot going on, I have never wished to kill my entire family to get my way with some things.
Where is Chris Watts Now?
Chris Watts, sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife and two daughters, is still in touch with the mistress he killed his family for to start a new life in 2018.
In an exclusive interview, fellow prisoner David Carter said that Chris Watts claimed his mistress Nichol Kessinger wrote to him from within the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin, using her new name.
Carter claimed, “He told me she indicated she needed to speak to him to clear up certain things.” He refused to tell me in detail what she had said.
After Watts was detained for the August 2018 murders of his pregnant wife Shanann and their two girls, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, Kessinger, 32, adopted a new persona and left her home in Arvada, Colorado.
He is currently incarcerated for 48 years without the possibility of release while serving five life sentences. In 2019, Watts confided in his pen buddy Cheryl Cadle that he was still in love with Kessinger and believed some letters he received while incarcerated came from her using aliases. Later, Cadle published a book titled Letters From Christopher based on their relationship.
Carter has confirmed those accusations that Kessinger does, or at least Watts thinks she does, write to the guy whose crime rocked the nation.
Carter, discharged from Dodge on February 27, claimed Watts, 35, first let him know Kessinger was writing to him in September of last year.
Watts further asserted that prison officials learned of what was taking place and punished him by suspending his email account and closely examining his mail.
Although he wasn’t supposed to communicate with her, she did so by writing to him. John Beard, a Wisconsin Department of Corrections spokesman, said he could respond to Carter’s assertions.
